Shards of Alara

Postby Captain Funbags » September 28th, 2008, 2:10 am

Woooooo! Th FNM crew makes its debut appearance at Ren Games for the Shards pre-release! McLovin, Cherrybomb, JDubbs, and Funbags all participate in the event (P-Chan was working, TAT had a sandy vajajay) and each performed well. I want to thank C-Bomb for beating up on my deck between matches so that I got the losses out of my system, and JDubbs for showing me his formula for a good 40 card deck: 17 lands, more creatures than other spells. Other special thanks go to Soul's Fire, Soul's Might, and Ajani Vengeant, all of which were instrumental in my 5-0 run. February 6, 2009 is the release of Conflux, the second set of the series -- hopefully we will have a full FNM turnout!

So, what Shard is your favorite from the Alara set? Mine is certainly Naya, even before the pre-release. C-Bomb seems to like Bant, but what about everyone else? Later kids! 8-)

Thank you TAT, too bad you weren't there. Perhaps for the next pre-release: Conflux releases February 6, 2009, so the pre-release event should be the last Saturday in January.

I might be able to make it to that one. We shall see.

Yes, contrats to Funbags on a good run, he put together a very strong deck. My afternoon didn't go as well, though I did go 3-2 overall (2-0, 1-2, 2-0, 1-2, 2-1), so I was competitive in the matches I lost at least.

I really need to sit down and look at my card pool, I think I might have been able to build a better deck.

Oddly enough, the only deck I had issues with was Cherrybomb's -- although in my third match (which I eked out 2-1) the other player had me on the ropes hardcore. I don't think I could have built a stronger deck with what I had. We'll have to play each other at FNM or something Dubby.

Was that against that kid Ben, with the WUb deck with the fliers and stuff?

Ben who!? I might know who that is. Did you happen to catch his name, or remembered what he looked like?

It was against a guy named Jon Poole, he was younger in brown polo shirt. He beat up on Cherrybomb before I played him, and he also had an Ajani. The kid Ben went to Harford Tech, he knows my brother. He played the WUB deck, and was one of my fastest games. (Turn 5 lethal) I think his last name was Cavalleros? Something along those lines.
