Quantum of Solace Theme Song

Quantum of Solace Theme Song

Postby TAT » September 17th, 2008, 11:32 am

According to the BBC News the new theme song for the upcoming 'James Bond' film "Quantum of Solace" is being perform by Alicia Keys and Jack White. The theme is supposedly composed by Jack White. Considering I am not a particular fan of either one; I give both artists their respect they deserve as far as their talent. If you listen to both artist independently they sound great, but putting them both together in my opinion is a bad idea. Both perform to two different musical genres, and both are on opposite ends of the vocal spectrum. Has a profession DJ I would never play Jack White followed by an Alicia Keys song and vice versa.

Now, hopefully I am surprised and the song turns out great and I am proven wrong. I guess I will have to wait until November when the movie comes out to see. The reason this conversation started was because of one of my buddies 'texted' me the other night and was all excited about the fact that Jack White was doing the "Quantum of Solace" theme song, which started a slew of message back and forth about each other opinions. I swear I think he has a hard on for any Jack White does. No offense to Jack White of course!

Anyway, I look forward to hearing this song. Good or Bad.

You ass hat! While I share your skepticism about the combination of White and Keys, I trust the ability of Jack White as (I'll reiterate) the greatest musical mind of our generation. (Probably followed closely by Kanye, settle down darkie). Anyway, I trust Jack White to know that his styles, Raconteur or White Stripe, differ considerably from that of Alicia Keys, and to be able to compose a song that complements both of their strengths. I cannot imagine what it will sound like, but as I'm not the one writing the song, I will reserve all judgement until I hear it, most likely at around 12:15 a.m. on the day Quantum releases.

In a related story, what is everyone's favorite Bond theme? And least favorite if you have one. My fave is Chris Cornell's song from Casino Royale, although Madonna's theme from Die Another Day is pretty memorable.

First off, Jack White and Kanye are not technicly our generation. You forget that we are in our mid-twenty's. They are the generation after us. That's when both of those artists came into mainstream. Secondly, I and millions of others would most likely disagree with you on the statement of "greatest musical mind' of that generation. Jack White is good within his own right, but it ends there. I don't think that any artist these days would be consider that.

As far as the Bond themes go, I would have to agree with the Captain but with one addition:

1. Duran Duran - A View to Kill

2. Madonna - Die Another Day

3. Garbage - The World is not Enough

4. Chris Cornell - You Know my Name

In that order.

Wow, what a surprise....

Mine would go in this order:
1. Chris Cornell - You Know my Name
2. Madonna - Die Another Day

Though it's been so long since I've seen/heard some of the older Bonds, I don't really recall the theme songs that well.

I also really liked Garbage - The World is not Enough which would go after Madonna under my list.

Yeah, actually I thought of that one after I posted my last post, and didn't feel like editing it. I might actually put that one above Madonna's.
